Dorset surprise

First weekend in September was round the corner Andy surprised me by announcing he'd booked us a long weekend away as an early birthday treat - and we were off the next day!
Just over an hours drive and we arrived at Eype, a little village along the coast from Lyme Regis, and only a walk to West Bay. Super excited to discover that Andy had chosen a gorgeous cabin with sea views right on the beach cliff - idyllic! Always a bonus when a lovely hamper awaits you too. So we headed straight to the beach for a walk, explore and play with Dart. Later we indulged in some wine on the decking watching the sun set - absolutely beautiful.

We were so blessed with the weather all weekend. Saturday we drove back to Lyme Regis as Andy remembered going as a boy. A cheeky drink or two in a nice pub, the George, in the village of Chideock on the way home and then more fun on the beach.

Sunday we wanted to walk some of the coastal path so we headed east and up. Beautiful views and a decent walk. What else could you ask for but a tasty Sunday roast at the New Inn? And their home marinated olives were amongst the best I've ever eaten.

Later in the day we walked in the opposite direction along the pebbly beach (not as easy as it looked!) and reached West Bay. Without a penny with us for an ice cream or drink we decided to do the same again the next morning but this time we went over the coastal path which despite the hillage, was easier than the beach!

We spent a good few hours at West Bay where we discovered the Customs House, "over 100 individual traders selling unique gifts, antiques, collectables, home-wares, vintage clothing, memorabilia, art and much more in a magnificent Grade II listed building". And we enjoyed spotting the Broadchurch filming locations before walking back - what a glorious weekend! Thank you best hubby for such a fabulous treat :)
